Just days before the ice shelf completely melted an amazing thing happened: the shelf detached from the shore and started floating away! Small pieces can be seen moving in the foreground 'moat' but this little pond and the remaining shelf were still enough to photograph. Amazing considering it was technically connected to the entire lake under the ice!
